- Niger President Mohamed Bazoum has said Mali's withdrawal from the G5 Sahel, a multinational force created to fight Islamist militants, will mark the end of the alliance. President Bazoum made the remarks in an interview with French daily La Croix.
- Nigerian commercial capital, Lagos, on Wed May 18 announced it would ban motorcycle taxis from operating in most of the traffic-clogged city, removing a popular mode of transport for residents. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the ban would cine into force from June, Reuters reported.
- The Russian Foreign Ministry has expelled diplomats from France, Italy, and Spain in retaliation for the expulsion of Russian diplomats from the European countries as part of a joint action in response to Russia's war in Ukraine.
