Newscaster: In Lagos, Fulani leaders from the states of southern Nigeria held a conference to resolve the problems that plague them and their profession as herders. Ladan Ibrahim Ayawa attended this meeting.

Ladan Ibrahim Ayawa: Sarkin Fulanin Legas Alhaji Muhammad Bambaɗo ya ce taron ya zama wajibi domin ganin cewa Fulani ba su shiga halin damuwa ba mussaman a game da wuraren da suke kiwon dabobinsu a duk faɗin jihohin kudancin Nijeriya.

Ladan Ibrahim Ayawa: A Fulani leader in Lagos, Alhaji Muhammad Bambado, said that the conference was necessary in order to prevent unrest in the Fulani community, especially in those areas where grazing is allowed across southern Nigeria.

Ya ce duk da yake suna fuskanta matsalar kabilanci da cinikin shanu duk inda suke a jihohin kudancin Nijeriya, to, amma, har kullum suna kira mutanensu lokaci-lokaci domin faɗakar da su muhimmancin zaman lafiya.

He said that in spite of the fact that they are facing problems of racism and cattle prices across southern Nigeria, they call upon the Fulani people from time to time in order to educate them on the importance of peace.

Alhaji Bambaɗo ya ce biyo bayan irin matsala da wasu Fulani suka shiga ne tsakanin su da masu masaukinsu a jihar Oyo ya sa suka gayyaci tsohon shugaban Nijeriya Janar Muhammadu Buhari domin ya shiga tsakani.

Alhaji Bambado said that the fallout from problems like those that have arisen between some Fulanis and the residents of Oyo State was the reason they called upon former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to help mediate.

Well, I asked him that if they felt the need to call upon northern leaders when they encounter a problem, then how good is their relationship with the state governments in southern Nigeria.

“Muna da kyakyawan dangantakar tsakanin mu da gwamnati. Su, muna tuntubensu suna shawara da mu. Mu ma muna shawara da su.”

“We have an excellent relationship with the government. We keep in contact with them. They give us advice, and we also advise them.”
|
Da kuma ya taɓo maganar rikicin da ke nema ya ɓullo kai a tsakanin Fulani a jihar Ogun. Sai sarki Bambaɗo ya ce wannan batu na ɗaya daga cikin manya-manyan batutuwan da suke tattaunawa a wannan zaman da suke yi a halin yanzu:

He also touched on the subject of the conflict that is threatening to arise between the Fulani in Ogun State. Here Sarki Bambado said that this subject is one of the major issues that is being addressed in the conference right now:

“Hauka ma ganin cewa Fulani sun yi nisa da ainahin muhallinsu.”

“It’s crazy, seeing how the Fulani have become so far removed from their traditional lifestyle.”
|

This led me to ask Alhaji Salisu Bashanke whether the Fulani of the southern states will take advantage of modern education:

“Ku ma kun san cewa kowane lokaci kuna gani yanda muke taruruka kuma muke yin ƙoƙari cewa mu tabbatar cewar an gina ma Fulani makarantu a ƙasar nan, su ma su samu ilimi mai inganci kamar kowa.”

“You yourself know, and you see how we are always meeting and we are making an effort to ensure that schools are built for the Fulani in this country so that they too can receive a proper education like everyone else.”

The Hausa chief in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Alhaji Hassan Hassan, also attended this conference. I asked him what his reason was for attending the conference:

“Makasudin halarta ta wannan taro shi ne: Ni dai, wannan al’amarin na Fulani a cikin jiha ta ya yi kyau, kuma ni ne ainahin sarkin sarakuna na jihar Ogun ga baki ɗaya.”

“The reason for attending this conference is this: In my view, this event the Fulanis are having here in this state is a good thing, and I am the head chief of all of Ogun State.”

Taron, wanda shi ne irinsa na farko ya samu halarcin ɗaukacin sarakunan Fulanin dukkan jihohin kudancin Nijeriya.

The conference, which is the first of its kind, is being attended by a majority of the Fulani leaders from the southern states of Nigeria.
