Duas relating to death <> Addu'o'in mutuwa/rasuwa

“Oh my Lord, take me to You in this moment, in this moment.” [1] [2]

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "None of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say: "O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me." [3] Dr Rania on CelebrateMercy [4] [5].

Ya Allah, if you know life to be good for me, then give it to me and allow me to overcome whatever difficulty and allow me to see the beauty in the life that You have given me... and if You know that death is to be better for me, then allow me to accept that and meet You in the best of states. [6]

Tsawon rai idan ya kasance cikin sab'on Allah ne, to ba shi da wani amfani ga mutum. Don haka ka roka wa wanda kake kauna jinkiri mai amfani, kamar yadda ya zo cikin addu'o'in da Annabi SAW ya koyar da al'ummarsa:

"Ya Allah ka raya ni matukar rayuwa ce mafi alheri a gare ni, ka kuma karbi raina idan mutuwar ce ta fi alheri a gare ni." [Bukhari #5671 da Muslim #2680]

Allahumma rafeequl a'ala, wa alhiqnee bissaliheen, wa la ilaha illallahu Muhammadan Rasulillah SAW

O Allah, I choose to return to You, to the highest company; join me with the righteous. There is no god but You, and Muhammad is Your Messenger. [7]

O believers! Do not devour one another's wealth illegally, but rather trade by mutual consent. And do not kill ˹each other or˺ yourselves. --Surah An-Nisa - 29 [8]

Ya Allah, grant me a Husnul Khatimah (a good ending) <> Allahumma inni as'alukal husnal khatimah

Ya Allah, grant me the ability to recite the Shahadah before I die (La Ilaha Ilallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah)

Returning to Allah: Promises of Allah - Chapter 17 | Suleiman Hani Quran with AlMaghrib Institute - The story about the father's death reminds me of our beloved prophet's when he SAW told Fatima rA "you will be the first of my family to follow me." Perhaps that's a more prophetic way to go that may bring some comfort to one's children. May Allah grant us such a good ending ameen.

“My Lord! You have indeed bestowed on me of the sovereignty, and taught me something of the interpretation of dreams – the (Only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali [9] in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim, and join me with the righteous.” --Quran/12/101

"And when my meeting with You is near, grant me a good end, O Allah." [12]

Saturday

(8) Our Lord, surely we heard a caller calling to the faith, saying: believe in your Lord. And we believed. Our Lord, forgive us therefore our sins, and blot out from us our evil deeds, and in death join us with the righteous.

(11) Our Lord, pour out patience over us and make us die as Muslims.

(52) O Allah, put in order for me my religion, which is my protection. Put in order for me my material world in which lies my livelihood. Put in order for me my life to come to which is my return. Make life a means of increase for me in all that is good, and death a respite for me from every evil. For without the din (religion) we are totally lost here and in the Hereafter.

(54) O Allah, I seek Your protection from helplessness, lethargy, cowardice, senility, debt, and sinfulness; from the punishment of Fire, the ordeal of Fire, the tribulation of the grave, the punishment in the grave, and the evil tribulations of affluence and of poverty; from the evil tribulation of the Anti-Christ; from the tests of life and death;

Sunday

(72) O Allah, with Your knowledge of the unseen, and Your absolute power over the creations, let me live in this world as long as You know my living is good for me, and give me death when You know death is better for me.

(80) O Allah, I ask You for a clean life, a graceful death, and a return (to You) which is neither humiliating nor disgracing.

(82) O Allah, I beg You for the best of petitions and invocations, thorough success, best deeds, best recompense, best life, and best death.

(85) O Allah, I seek Your protection from undesirable age and mischief of the heart. I seek Your refuge, by virtue of Your Honor as there is no god except You, from that You should lead me astray. (I seek Your refuge) from severe trials, wretchedness, bad fate, and taunts from the enemies. From the evil of what I did and what I did not. From the loss of Your blessings and the removal of Your protection. From Your sudden punishment and from all (that can warrant) Your wrath. From the mischief of my hearing, sight, speech, heart, and seed. From oppressing others or being oppressed, from being crushed or falling, from drowning or being burnt. Or that Shaytan should confuse me at the time of my death. Or that I should die as a fugitive from jihad or that I should die due to a venomous bite.

Monday

(89) O Allah, instruct me in the evidence of faith at the time of death.

Tuesday

(128) O Allah... let my life end with my best deed, and make Paradise its reward. <> Ya Allah... ka bar rayuwata ta ƙare da aiki na mafi alheri, kuma Ka sa Aljanna ce ladan haka.

(135) O Allah, give me life of a humble person and death of a humble person, and raise me on the Day of Judgment among humble persons.

(146) O Allah, You are the One Who created my soul and You are the One Who will take it back. Its death and life are in Your control. If You keep it alive then protect it. And if You give it death then grant it forgiveness. O Allah, I beg for Afiyah.

Wednesday

(170) O Allah, do not cause us to suffer sudden destruction, nor seize us by surprise, nor hasten us (to death) out of rights and wills. Do not give us death before we can discharge all others’ rights over us and write our will.

Thursday

(176) O Allah, I beg You for hastening of good health from You, patience over Your trials, and exit from this world into Your mercy.

(190)...O Allah, I seek Your protection from a worrisome death and I seek Your protection from a sorrowful death.

Friday

(197) Allah is sufficient for me at the time of death. Allah is sufficient for me during the questioning (by angels) in the grave.
197. Hasbiyallahu indal mauti.

(198) O Allah, I seek from You the reward of the grateful, the reception of the close ones, the company of the prophets, the belief of the truthful, the humbleness of the fearful, and the devotion of the true believers—all my life so that You give me death in this state, O the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. (See also a similar dua in Wednesday's 169)

(204) O Allah, I beg You for release from the Fire. O Allah, help me in the pangs and agonies of death.

The pangs and agonies of death have different purposes. They may sometimes happen to disbelievers as punishment. They may happen to sinners as recompense for their sins. They may be a means of elevating the ranks of the pious. Also what a dying person feels and what other people observe may be two different things. Thus we cannot pass judgment on a person by observing his death.

(205) O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, and join me with the Highest Companion.

This was the du‘a’ of the Prophet SAW on his deathbed. It is highly desirable that one should be making this du‘a’ as death approaches.

(206) O Allah I seek Your protection from a sudden death, snake bite, beasts, drowning, burning, falling on anything, and from being killed with a fleeing troop.

sudden death: We seek protection from sudden calamities and sudden death. However, if one does encounter that then we should seek comfort from other traditions that promise martyrdom for a person facing such death. This is similar to the case of sickness. We never seek it and always ask for good health. However when we do fall sick, we seek comfort from the hadith that tell us that it becomes a means of forgiveness of one’s sins.
