UMD NFLC Advanced Hausa-English Lessons

Learn the Hausa Language from University of Maryland's National Foreign Language Center (NFLC) developed materials.

Language Learning Objects, which are self-contained units of language instruction designed to help the learner improve target language proficiency. Each Language Learning Object consists of an authentic reading or listening passage accompanied by support materials, such as a translation, an audio narration or transcript, a glossary, and cultural notes, and instructional components, such as pedagogical activities and instructive feedback.

Assessment Objects are instructional modules designed to help US government linguists and others prepare for general language proficiency tests, especially fifth generation Defense Language Proficiency Tests in strategic languages. While they are intended to give potential test takers a stronger sense of the types of items such tests contain, Assessment Objects are not practice tests. Instead, they aim to help learners more broadly by showing them which aspects of stimuli are addressed in such tests, what typical prompts look like, what conditions and restrictions obtain in such tests, and more specifically, what level of difficulty in terms of text and task can be expected at different Interagency Language Roundtable levels. To date, the NFLC has developed over 1200 Assessment Objects in over 30 languages.
